Do Wedding Vendors Need A Website?

By: Mike | March 11, 2025

So you finally took the plunge and started a wedding business. Or maybe you have been running a business for years. Whether your in to wedding photography, wedding planning, florist, DJ or anything else wedding related you are probably asking yourself "Do I need a website?" I think my answer may surprise you a bit since I am a web designer but the short answer is no - you don't NEED a website. The longer answer is no - you dont NEED a webite BUT it sure does help.

Why wedding vendors don't need a website

There are a bunch of reasons that wedding vendors can cite for not needing a website. From "I have an Instagram/Facebook Page" to "All of my business comes through referrals". The truth is that these are each good sources of leads and marketing for your business. They should not be ignored. Referrals are the gold standard. You can absolutely get by with just these sources of marketing and no dedicated webpage. BUT a website will help to supplement and provide an anchor for these activities. A website is just a different tool for a different situation. Just like a wedding photographer would probably not use a 24mm 1.4 lens for portraits. Can you do it? Sure, in a pinch it would work. But portraits are going to look better with a portrait lens. Use the right tool for the right situation.

How a website can supplement a wedding vendor's marketing efforts

Search Engine Optimization

This is the biggest one. An Instagram page is not going to give you much if any searchability on the web. There is no blog indexed by search engines with relevant site titles, heading etc. on Instagram. There is no way to really target relevnt keywords for which your audience may be searching. Social media sites are great for engaging with a curated audience but a website is great for finding a wider audience. This is where a website shines. If you want proof of this search for Best Wedding Photographer Near Me. You will not see any Instagram pages on that list even though nearly every wedding photographer has an Instagram page.

Hub of information

Point two is that a website can act as a hub of information. It is a source of truth for your clients and potential clients that you always control. Instagram allows you to pin posts but ultimately you do not have complete control over your content on Instagram. There is only one place where you can remove your content whenever you want, change you messaging whenever you want and target your content in any manner you like. That is your website. This fact should not be discounted because a random mistake by an AI bot on Facebook can really hurt your business.

Branding

Further to our previous point is that only on your website can you completely control your branding. Do you want a funky hand drawn, playful vibe to show to your clients? Easy to do on your website. On Facebook or Instagram? Not so much as you are going to have to follow the standard layouts and commenting system they provide. You have so much more flexibility with a website. Not to sound like a broken record but can you get away without a website? Yes. BUT a website sure can help with your overall branding.

Credibility

Can you have credibility from a great Insta or Tik Tok? Yes. Great photos on Instagram are going to give you a lot of credibility (I think you know what's coming next) BUT a website shows client that you are really taking your business seriously. Although this is kind of a soft marketing because you can't really track the credibility perception of your business but I promise you it is there. 75% of people judge a company by its website and this is a good opportunity to present your business in the best light possible.

Conclusion

Do you need a wwebsite as a wedding vendor? No you don't. You can get by without one and at the beginning of your business if you are strapped for capital this is probably preferable. But as your business moves along it is going to be very helpful to diversify how your leads are generated, gain credibility and get more visibility. A website is the one vehicle that will do all of these things for you and work non-stop while doing it.
